Subject: Churchwide Appeal for Philippines Disasters
Dear Church,
The Council of Bishops and the Connectional Table, meeting in Lake Junaluska, N.C., in early November made an urgent appeal to the people of The United Methodist Church to ease the suffering of our sisters and brothers in the Philippines. Recent flooding and subsequent landslides have claimed lives and caused great suffering. The death toll exceeds 1,000 because of four successive typhoons and the related health issues that followed. With more than 9 million persons affected, an estimated 1.3 million persons are displaced while the economic and agricultural impact is still being assessed.
The Churchwide Appeal for Philippines Disasters will provide humanitarian relief and support the ministries and congregations of The United Methodist Church in the Philippines. We hope you will designate a Sunday to give your congregation an opportunity to participate in this churchwide appeal. Please direct gifts made through local churches to the conference treasurer’s office, marked Churchwide Appeal for Philippines Disasters, No. 818-002-PHP. Your conference treasurer will forward contributions to the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA). You may also donate online at http://www.UMCappeal.org.
Our United Methodist brothers and sisters desperately need our support. More than 200,000 United Methodists in 1,372 local churches in the Philippines pray that we will stand beside them through these storms.
In Christ,
Bishop Gregory V. Palmer, President, The Council of Bishops

Returns to Parker UMC

For the last several years, we have turned Parker UMC into Bethlehem to celebrate the birth of Christ. This year we have some new “shops” and crafts (all free), along with some old favorites. We’ll have a live nativity and stable, a new Jewish “Inn” serving some typical and not so typical foods of the time, Jewish singing and dancing that all can participate in, a wandering minstrel, and more. You’ll find a registration form by clicking here. Please return it to the Church office or email it back to mel@parkerumc.org

As I mentioned in the sermon on Feb. 25th, Kathleen Flood has come up with a way to observe the 7 offices of prayer during the day from the Benedictines in a way that is possible when you do not live in a monastery. The purpose of these is to bring us back into contact and conversation with God throughout the day. The Latin name for the office is followed by the times. Click here for the 7 offices and the times.
Grace and peace,

In all three services the sermon is based on the same scriptures with a slight variation in style. We hope you will find that one of these three services enhances your sense of God's presence as you worship.
